Okay, so we hit two different places last night. It was our buddy's 23rd birthday, so we just followed his lead. First, we went to B-Side, which, before we got there, we engaged in heavy debate over whether the name refferred to the second side of a record, or a clever trendster spin on the word "besides." We went with option A.
The second place we hit was Second on Second. It was a karaoke bar. We had our own room. Yikes.
Thrill:
My face still hurting from the night before, I only managed one beer on the train ride in. We get to B-Side and i cant stomach the PBR/whiskey shot 5 dollar combo because im a huge gay. I stuck with Bud Lights, only 3 dollars a pop so not bad at all. One beer in, I sacked up and started shooting tequila, which was definitely a good decision. The bartender Sarah was awesome, complete with a great Ipod stocked with good tunes not normally heard in bars in the city (Primus, Neutral Milk Hotel). Good shit considering music in bars can pretty much make or break my night. So we drank there from about 8 til 11 then cabbed it downtown a few blocks to the karaoke bar. We had a room to ourselves and the waitress kept on bringing in the beers. I sang sledgehammer cause its a jam as well as a few other diddies, broke up a fight, told an innocent bystander to leave the bar because I thought he was to blame, paid an exorbitant amount of money so we could leave the bar, and then returned home. All in all, a bang up night. I'd definetely return to B Side, not too sure about Second on Second. The rediculously high tab kinda turned me off.
POD:
The night started off in hilarity when on the walk from our house to the train station, Jeigh Peayh stopped and tried to explain how he accidentally forgot to wear underpants. He also forgot an undershirt, money, and his phone. Combine that with the fact that 30 minutes earlier, Thrill was visibly shaking from what I diagnosed as alcohol withdrawal from the night before, and it was a good start to the night. It was our buddy's birthday so a bunch of us met downtown to celebrate. Destination 1: B Side (E12th st and Ave B). This place is half "Mid life crisis college rememberance bar" and half "Early 20s college rememberance bar." There's no kitchen so people are fee to bring in food from the various places in the area. There is one medium size tube TV that doesn't appear to be working, right next to a sign tracking the bar's progress at raising enough money to buy a flatscreen (the goal is $700). The most popular order of the night, what the bartender conveniently labels "the special", is a can of PBR and a shot of Wild Turkey for $5. Needless to say we were all feeling pretty special after a while. Topping off this glorified hole in the wall was a slightly demolished foosball table (a few of the "men" were ducktaped together) located in the bar's loungy back room, which consisted of a few wooden seats surrounding the table. All in all this place was good for a cheap drink and a good place to start off the night. Our birthday friend wanted nothing more than to belt the groups usual tunes of choice at the top of our lungs at each other. So we hopped in cabs and headed to 2nd on 2nd (surprisingly located at 2nd street and 2nd ave). The main bar was filled with "downtown-ites" who had no problem paying $1 per song and waiting 2 hours to scream "hit me with your best shot" at each other over and over again. We proceeded to a backroom with our party of about 20 so we could skip the wait and start our own concert. The night rattled on with the usual hits like Sledgehammer, Safety Dance, and of course Beer for my Horses. When we were getting ready to leave and requested the check, we came to the realization that our 2 hours of drunken lullabies came at the price of over $600. After everyone finished bitching and moaning about how they did not drink their share of the check we retreated to cabs so we could catch the last train out of Manhattan. The night ended in typical fashion with Jeigh Peayh and myself passing out in the living room in mid power hour. All in all pretty good night.
Jeigh Peayh:
Yea, so I think the boys got the gist of the night down for the most part. The no underwear thing was complicated. We were setting up the blog when I got out of the shower last night, so I only threw on jeans so I could run into POD's room for a sec, and that took longer than I thought, and so I forgot to go back and put some whities on.
I was pretty bored at B-side, and since I don't drink liquor after my incredible experience on the beaches of Wildwood, NJ (The cops are pretty cool there, so I was told), the special wasn't all that special to me.
Second on Second was a pretty cool joint, I thought. The minor scuffle that occurred was handled quite well by the bouncer- he was a pretty cool dude. About half the bouncers in New York are Cocknockers, and the other half are pretty cool. This guy was pretty cool, and didn't really give us a problem. The karaoke thing was pretty sweet, and the waitress definetly wanted all she could handle of this guy, which was pretty awesome. Like they said, the tab was a pain in the ass to handle, because people had left without paying and shit, which is a pain in the ass. The scam was that the waitress kept bringing beers and shit in, and of course no mention of the tab until we were about to leave, which had to be handled, which pissed off the birthday boy (always seems to happen on your birthday, being pissed I mean), and of course every girl was saying to me, "I didn't drink $45 dollars worth of booze" not taking into account that they had to pay the room fee as well. Needless to say it was alot of drama that was not made up for by the other cool things about this place. I'm glad I went to both of them just for the experience, but it will not become a part of my usual list of hangouts, which right now only consists of one:
Third and Long.
I had fun, though, and didn't come home sober.
B- Side : Thrill- Yes POD: Only with a big group Jeigh: No
2nd and 2nd: Thrill- No POD-No Jeigh-almost yes but no

Greetings
Well hello there.
This is the first, of hopefully many posts from the three of us, The Thrill, POD, and Jeigh Peayh. We're three guys who like drinkin' and live and work in the Great City of New York. After going out to the same ten or twelve bars for the last year or so, we've decided to branch out. We're going to start hitting as many different bars as we can in the time allotted to us in NYC, and the morning after we hit a new place, we'll give a quick write up about it.
Rather than this being a total review page, though, we're also gonna give you a basic play-by-play of how the night unfolded, since we're all agreed that whether or not we like the bar has as much to do with what happens before we walk through the door as with the vibe of the place.
The three of us have been buddies for coming on twenty years, so we know each other pretty well, and have a similar sense of humor. That being said though, each of our experiences are almost guaranteed to be completely different.
Hopefully you'll enjoy this blog, and if you don't, go fuck yourself.
